Dionex Announces EPA Federal Register Approval of Ion Chromatography for Total Cyanide Analysis
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to add new and revised methods published by the EPA, voluntary consensus organizations such as ASTM International, and other commercial entities, for use in water quality monitoring. These changes and additional methods will provid more

KSB extends India foundry
KSB Group has expanded the steel foundry capacities at its Indian site of Vambori over the past months. Two new natural gas-fired furnaces contribute to increasing the steel castings output from 300 tons to 1200 tons per year. The foundry specialises in steels and stainless steels difficult to cast, more

Nanofarming technology harvest biofuel oils without harming algae
Algae is widely touted as the next best source for fueling the world's energy needs. But one of the greatest challenges in creating biofuels from algae is that when you extract the oil from the algae, it kills the organisms, dramatically raising production costs. Now researchers at the U.S. Departme more

Calculating VOCs: Not all Low-VOCs Are Considered Equal
Like most coatings, paints, and maintenance products, water repellents are expected to comply with increasingly stringent regulations of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), which are any volatile carbon compounds that engage in atmospheric photochemical reactions. The simplest example of a VOC would be a solvent or drying aid. Common examples include alcohols (such as IPA), mineral spirits, kerosene, toluene or xylene. The only compounds that have been exempt from regulations are those that have shown negligible photochemical reactivity, such as volatile methyl siloxanes, acetone, and tertiary butyl acetate. Conflicts between application specifications that require higher VOC products and tightening regulation standards pose a challenge to the market more

Flash point testing - The definitive test method
Classifying the flammability of fuels and other materials by their flash point value has been an established practice for more than 100 years. Today mandatory international and national regulations are set by bodies such the UN, IATA, EPA, EU, and Health and Safety executives more

Chemometric Spectroscopy
Chemometric Spectroscopy is the term used to describe the direct combination of a spectroscopic measurement with a chemometric data evaluation procedure, typically a multivariate statistic method, so providing quick and reliable deduction of the qualitative and quantitative properties of a sample from its spectrum. A multi-linear regression (MLR) or partial least squares (PLS) regression is usually used for the quantitative determination of individual or combined parameters, while substance identification generally relies on techniques such as discriminant or cluster analysis. more

Automated Generation and Optimal Selection of Biofuel-Gasoline Blends and Their Synthesis Routes
Biomass can be converted into a plethora of compounds through different chemical transformations, thus leading to a complex network of possible synthesis steps. In this work, we propose a novel strategy that simultaneously identifies (a) the most desirable biomass-derived products for an application more

Evaluation of Peanut Fatty Acid Methyl Ester Sprays, Combustion, and Emissions, for Use in an Indirect Injection Diesel Engine
The paper provides an analysis of 100% peanut fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) and peanut FAME/ULSD#2 blends (P20, P35, and P50) in an indirect injection (IDI) diesel engine (for auxiliary power unit applications) in comparison to ultralow sulfur diesel no. 2 (ULSD#2) at various speeds and 100% load more

Measurement of Asphaltenes Using Optical Spectroscopy on a Microfluidic Platform
We present a microfluidic apparatus and method for the measurement of asphaltene content in crude-oil samples. The measurement is based on an optical absorption technique, where it was established that asphaltene coloration correlated linearly with asphaltene weight content. The initial absorbance o more
