Ceftibuten is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is an orally-administered agent, with 2 dosage forms, capsule or oral suspension. It is marketed by Shionogi USA under the trade name Cedax®
Clinical useIndicationsCeftibuten is used to treat acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis (ABECB), acute bacterial otitis media, pharyngitis, and tonsilitis. FormulationsCeftibuten is available as capsules containing 400 mg, and a powder for oral suspension containing 90 mg per 5 ml. See also
