Dimethylbutane

Dimethyl butane refers to an alkane, isomeric to hexane, but is actually a butane molecule with two methane atoms bonded in a line instead of one of it's hydrogen atoms. Same as hexane, dimethyl butane has a chemical formula of C6H14.

There are two structurally different alkanes which can be named as "dimethyl butane":

  • 2,2-Dimethylbutane
  • 2,3-Dimethylbutane
