Dow Corning plans China business and technology center to expand focus on innovation

Dow Corning plans to launch a China Business and Technology Center in Zhangjiang, Shanghai, China in the middle of 2010 to spur innovation in silicon-based materials and technologies, the company announced. Dow Corning was one of dozens of multinational companies and organizations, who signed agreements on January 20 with The People’s Government of Shanghai Pudong New Area. The company will move their operations to Pudong New Area later this year.

“Pudong welcomes overseas investment to aid the development of one of the most dynamic districts in Shanghai, even in China. We look forward to continued communications with overseas organizations in Shanghai so as to create a better environment for your work and life,” said Jiang Liang, deputy secretary general of CPC Shanghai Committee, and director of Pudong New Area. “Pudong New Area government will continue to focus on the development of overseas investors this year. We will work hard to provide a better investment and commercial environment.”

Located in the heart of Shanghai Pudong’s Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, the new Dow Corning China Business and Technology Center will comprise a state-of-the-art technology and development facility and Dow Corning China corporate offices. The sustainable investment of companies like Dow Corning in Pudong area speaks well to the long-term commitment to China market, and its faith to use innovation to support the market growth of Greater China.

Staffed by hundreds of scientists, engineers and marketing professionals, the new center is designed to help develop innovative solutions to improve quality of life of people in China by addressing megatrends such as renewable energy, climate protection, water conservation and urbanization. A specific goal of the center is to improve customer service by shortening the innovation cycle to turn market opportunities and new ideas into profitable solutions.
