05-08-2003: Joining forces to create more value for the paper industry - this is the goal of BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen (Germany) and Omya AG, Oftringen (Switzerland), and the reason for creating a new basis for their existing cooperation. The two partners signed a cooperation agreement for the long term on April 4, 2003. The goal is the bundling of existing know-how in the areas of papermaking and coating, and to use the Technical Services resources more efficiently. BASF and Omya thus meet the growing demand for holistic problem solutions on part of the paper industry, comprising paper chemicals and pigments.
The companies plan to work on joint customer and engineering projects in the areas of papermaking and coating. The technological centerpiece of the enhanced cooperation is the Paper Technical Center at BASF Ludwigshafen with its state-of-the-art pilot paper coating machine and additional equipment which will be used by both partners as of now. Additional elements of the alliance are the joint utilization of laboratories at BASF Ludwigshafen and Omya Oftringen as well as the cooperation in the assessment of the printing technology of paper and board products.
Apart from the agreed cooperation both companies will continue to market their products and services for the paper industry independently. Existing business relationships of BASF and Omya with their respective customers will remain unchanged.
Omya AG is an international white minerals company supplying high quality calcium carbonates and talcs. The company's major markets include paper, plastics, rubber, coatings, adhesives, building chemicals and agriculture.
