Ciba Specialty Chemicals expands range of light stabilizers

20-Aug-2001

Ciba specialty chemicals, the leading global supplier of light stabilizers for paints and coatings, has obtained an exclusive license for the manufacture and sales of reactable light stabilizers for resins, Norbloc® 7966 and 6000, for which the world-wide patent rights are held by Janssen Pharmaceuticals N.V., Plant and Material Protection Division. The license covers the whole of Europe, USA, Canada and South America. The products will be sold as part of the existing Ciba® Tinuvin® range under the trade names Tinuvin® R796 and Tinuvin® R600.

“ As the leader in light stabilization, we are committed to providing our customers with full solutions, not just products. This new product license enables us to extend the usage of our lightstabilizers beyond traditional additive approaches”, said the Head of Business Line Coatings, Godwin Berner.

The licensed product, a re-actable UV absorber, completes Ciba’s range of light stabilizers for the coatings industry. It also provides Ciba with the opportunity of reaching new customer groups. Whilst most of Ciba’s light stabilizers are sold to paint and coatings formulators, this latest addition to the product range will as well be targeted at resin manufacturers for inclusion in superior performance products used for diverse applications, such as head lamp coatings or external architectural coatings.
