Big interest in services offered by chem2biz

Four new tenants plus several more interested parties - this is the result almost one year after the launch of the sector-specific technology center chem2biz. Back in mid-July 2004, Rhineland-Palatinate's economics minister, Hans-Artur Bauckhage, Ludwigshafen's mayor, Dr. Eva Lohse, and Dr. Albert Heuser, site manager of BASF in Ludwigshafen, signed a cooperation agreement. On a tour of the center, they saw for themselves the bustling activity in this innovation generator, a joint project by the TechnologieZentrum Ludwigshafen (TZL GmbH) and BASF.

Both startups and established companies from industries as diverse as pharmaceutical, wastewater purification and biogas generation have rented premises in chem2biz. "The exceptionally rapid success of chem2biz shows that we're on the right track: We want the technology center to help establish and attract companies specializing in chemicals and related disciplines," said Frank Klein, managing director of TZL GmbH. "This is also an excellent model for temporary projects," he added.

The aim of the joint initiative is to make Ludwigshafen and the metropolitan Rhine-Neckar region even more attractive as a location for chemical-based companies, and in this way to enhance the area's competitiveness on a global scale.

The facilities provided by the new technology center are geared in particular toward young innovative companies, entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Representatives from the fields of chemicals, nanotechnology, new materials, biotechnology, and process and chemical engineering are particularly welcome. The facilities BASF provides to chem2biz-based companies include labs and pilot plants as well as extensive technical and chemical expertise. Commercial help is provided by TZL GmbH.
