Abbott to Invest S$450 Million (US$280 Million) in Largest Nutritional Plant in Singapore
State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility to Support Rapidly Growing Demand for Abbott Nutritional Products in Asia
04-24-2006: Abbott announced that it is building a nutritional powder manufacturing plant in Singapore's Tuas Biomedical Park 2 at the westernmost tip of the island. The plant is Abbott's first major capital investment in Asia and its largest nutritional investment ever. It is also the largest investment in a nutritional plant in Singapore to date by any one company.
Abbott is investing S$450 million (U.S.$280million) in the state-of-the-art facility which, when completed in 2008, will enable the company to meet the increasing demand for Abbott nutritional products in the region.
According to Abbott, the Singapore facility will have a manufacturing environment, equipment and procedures designed to achieve the highest level of process control and cleanliness in every step of the manufacturing and distribution process. As with other Abbott facilities, the same world-class manufacturing standards and quality controls will apply to the Singapore plant. At start-up, the plant is expected to employ several hundred people in roles ranging from professional and management to technical, maintenance and operations.
Work on the plant will start in May 2006 and the plant is expected to be in operation by the end of 2008.
