01-23-2009: Merquinsa announced it has been granted the Frost & Sullivan 2008 Global Thermoplastic Urethane (TPU) Product Innovation Green Excellence of the Year Award. This award recognizes Merquinsa´s innovation in biopolymers, with its Bio TPU made from renewable carbon resources and successfully marketed globally under Pearlthane® and Pearlbond® ECO brands for a wide range of “green” electronics, sports, automotive, footwear and adhesive applications, among others.
Bio TPUs are high-performance biopolymers with a biocontent from 20 to 90% according to ASTM D6866, offering a unique set of properties, such as low density, high flexibility, abrasion resistance, good toughness and processability. These Bio TPUs are fully recyclable but not biodegradable.
A preliminary life cycle assessment (LCA) indicates that manufacturing Pearlthane® and Pearlbond® ECO product lines result in 40% less global warming emissions. Frost & Sullivan presents its Green Excellence Awards annually to companies that have demonstrated leadership towards implementing sustainable and environmentally conscious initiatives. Recipient companies have demonstrated a commitment to a low-carbon society.
