ASD Inc. enlarges the FieldSpec product line by the new FieldSpec 4, which is a milestone in the field spectroscopy. The FieldSpec 4 offers ASD´s state-of-the art remote sensing technology with dramatically improved speed, performances and portability over previous models.

The full-range (350-2500 nm) Vis/NIR FieldSpec 4 provides the highest spectral resolution (up to 8 nm) available in a portable, ruggedized field spectrometer. All versions of the FieldSpec 4 have an improved, ruggedized fiber optic cable and a compact and impact-resistant case.

A new, ruggedized fiber-optic cable option, 50-percent smaller and a lighter instrument case, a soft-sided backpack travel cover and improved wireless capabilities, round out new user enhancements.

The main improvements to the FieldSpec 4 are the speed of spectrum capture as well as the enhanced quality of the collected spectra.

The powerful FieldSpec 4 line of full-range (350 – 2500 nm) spectroradiometers provides researchers concerned with speed, the ability to cover more ground faster, and enjoy the same high data quality. Ultimately, FieldSpec 4 users can cover twice the area in a half of the time thanks to the improvements in the SWIR 1 and 2 regions.

For applications requiring the highest possible precision, the new spectrometer configuration provides double the signal-to-noise performance. This results in much more precise spectral data with no increase in measurement time.

Researchers who are looking at materials with features at the longer wavelengths will especially benefit from the improvements in performance in the SWIR 1 and 2 regions.

The FieldSpec 4 is available in three different versions:

  • FieldSpec 4 Standard-Res (350-2500 nm)
A jack-of-all- trades remote sensing spectroradiometer suitable for a wide range of applications including hyperspectral image interpretation and validation.
  • FieldSpec 4 Hi-Res (350-2500 nm)
is well-suited for geologic and other applications that requires definition of narrow spectral features, especially in the longer wavelength range.
  • FieldSpec 4 Wide-Res (350-2500 nm)
variant is well suited for support of multi spectral remote sensing studies and analysis of materials with broad spectral features.

HandHeld version:

  • FieldSpec HandHeld 2 (325-1075 nm)
This lower resolution alternative to the FieldSpec® 4 is well suited for many plant physiology, agronomy and forestry applications or as a starter into Remote Sensing research.

Conclusion:

Now with the release of the new FieldSpec 4, users benefit from a number of enhancements:

  • Users can cover more ground faster and enjoy the same precise data quality with a 2x improvement in SWIR 1/SWIR 2 NEdL and improved signal-to-noise ratio.
  • The tough, ruggedized cable ensures that the fiberoptic perform at their best and the optical data loss is minimized.
  • Smaller, lighter instrument case and convenient backpack travel bag for easy travel to and from the site.
  • Expanded wireless range helps users capture spectra farther from the instrument controller.
  • The system offers the modular Goetz spectrometer with a spectral range from 350nm to 2500nm and is ideally for numerous remote sensing and research applications
