Portable Spektrometers for Remote Sensing and laboratory applications

Measurements at the edge of technology, harsh environmental conditions

by SphereOptics GmbH

New and released: the FieldSpec HandHeld with integrated Display
Researchers in earth sciences have applied remote sensing techniques to global environmental issues over the past several decades. Therefore the need for reliable and high performance devices is strongly given. ASD Inc. (Analytical Spectral Devices), as the world leader in Field Spectroscopy, offers a complete line of portable VIS/NIR Spectrometers for Remote Sensing Applications, but also for production and quality control. Represented by SphereOptics GmbH in Germany and Eastern Europe both companies serve the market with high quality and performance equipment.

The FieldSpec™ 3 Series
These portable VIS/NIR Spectrometers are designed to collect solar reflectance, radiance and irradiance data. Wavelength ranges starting from 350nm up to 2500nm enable researchers to look at minerals, as well as for Chlorophyll or Oxygen/Water content. The FieldSpec3 Series comes with a laptop to coordinate base line settings and perform measurements. To perform measurements with one person only, the system is delivered with an ergonomic backpack to store the spectrometer in a safe way, batteries to run the laptop and system, and a plate to hold the laptop in front of the user.

The FieldSpec HandHeld 2, is a renewed design which does not need a computer unit to be used. There is an integrated color display in the device, with a storage capacity up to 2000 spectra. This field spectrometer has a spectral range of 325-1075nm with an accuracy of +/-1nm and a resolution of <3nm@700nm. The FieldSpec HandHeld 2 revolutionizes onsite measurement by providing true portability for extremely precise, quickly derived data.

The FieldSpec™ 3 Series is ideal for applications in remote sensing, geology and soil applications, as it comes with an ergonomic backpack, long life battery (7 hours) and a low weight laptop. Optional wireless interfacing from spectrometer to laptop within a distance of approximately 150feet is possible. A wide range of measurement probes were designed focused on different applications.

All these measurement devices can only be as good as their calibration, therefore SphereOptics GmbH offers a large variety or white and grey reference targets. The new AlucoreZenith targets offer stable and lambertian reflectance behaviour, combined with low weight and high temperature stability. Not only traditional white reflectance targets are offered, there is a choice of greyscale values the customer can choose from in different sizes. In addition SphereOptics also offers the widely known Spectralon reflectance panels in different sizes.
