Refrigerated high-speed benchtop centrifuge: Sigma 3-30K
Comparable performance to floor-standing centrifuges, with vessels of 1.5 - 50 ml
by Sigma Laborzentrifugen GmbHThis small and quiet unit enables speeds up to 30,000 rpm and gravitational fields of more than 65,000 x g. With a vessel volume of 1.5 – 50 ml, the performance is comparable to that of a floor-standing centrifuge, while the list price of the Sigma 3-30 is considerably lower than the usual prices for floor-standing centrifuges.
The drive concept of the Sigma 3-30K is based on the highly proven and reliable predecessor model 3K30. The drive is free from carbon brushes and, therefore, is practically maintenance-free.
The Sigma 3-30KH is a heated version. Its maximum rotor temperature is between +40°C and +60°C and depends on the type of rotor and speed.
The frequently used rotors for both centrifuge variants are the 6x30 ml rotor (max. 60,628 x g), the 24x1.5 ml rotor (max. 61,973 x g), and the 6x50 ml rotor (max. 41,415 x g).
The typical areas of application of the centrifuges, which are utilised at universities and research institutions as well as in the pharmaceutical, biotechnological, and nanotechnological industries, are:
- Sedimentation of cell membranes
- DNA sedimentation
- Separation in the field of nano-research
- Determination of the colouring pigment content per DIN
- Analyses of used engine oil
- Use of centrifugation instead of expensive filter materials
- Protection of HPLC columns through the separation of sediments
