Synthesis and Properties of a Family of Unsymmetric Dinuclear Complexes of LnIII (Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb)

The reaction of a nonsymmetric multidentate ligand with LnIII salts (Ln = Gd, Tb, Eu) leads to the formation of the corresponding dinuclear complexes, exhibiting two distinct metal sites. The arrangement leads to weak antiferromagnetic coupling between the metals that, in the case of Tb and Eu, exhibit strong magnetoanisotropy. All of these conditions are necessary for these dinuclear entities to be considered as possible 2qubit quantum gates for quantum computing.
