A general route to the synthesis of surfactant-free, solvent-dispersible ternary and quaternary chalcogenide nanocrystals

04-04-2011 | O. Zaberca; A. Gillorin; B. Durand; J. Y. Chane-Ching, Journal of Materials Chemistry, 2011

A general route to the synthesis of surfactant-free CuInS2 (CIS), Cu2CoSnS4 (CCTS) and Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) nanocrystals dispersible in low boiling point solvents is proposed. These nanocrystal inks should be of great interest to the fabrication of thin film absorbers of chalcogenide solar cells.

Effect of Surface Modification on Semiconductor Nanocrystal Fluorescence Lifetime

04-04-2011 | Ruedas‐Rama, Maria J.; Orte, Angel; Hall, Elizabeth A. H.; Alvarez‐Pez, Jose M.; Talavera, Eva M., ChemPhysChem, 2011

Abstract Semiconductor nanocrystals, namely, quantum dots (QDs), present a set of unique photoluminescence properties, which has led to increased interest in using them as advantageous alternatives to conventional organic dyes. Many applications of QDs involve surface modification to ...

Polyhedral Bimetallic Alloy Nanocrystals Exclusively Bound by {110} Facets: Au–Pd Rhombic Dodecahedra

04-04-2011 | Lee, Young Wook; Kim, Minjung; Kang, Shin Wook; Han, Sang Woo, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2011

{110}‐faceted alloy nanocrystals: Rhombic dodecahedral Au–Pd alloy nanocrystals (NCs) enclosed exclusively by 12 {110} facets were prepared by a simple one‐pot aqueous synthetic method. The picture shows an SEM image of the NCs (inset: ideal RD structure). The NCs exhibit higher ...

Monodisperse upconversion NaYF4 nanocrystals: Syntheses and bioapplications

03-04-2011 | Mingliang Deng, Yingxin Ma, Sheng Huang, Gaofei Hu, Leyu Wang, Nano Research, 2011

A facile strategy using cheap and readily available precursors has been successfully developed for the synthesis of rare-earth doped hexagonal phase NaYF4 nanocrystals with uniform shape and small particle size as well as strong photoluminescence. Due to their optical properties and good ...

Multiferroic Behavior in Composites of Nickel‐Exchanged Glass Containing Nanoparticles of Barium Titanate

01-04-2011 | Naidu, R. Venkata Ram; Hajra, Partha; Datta, Anindya; Bhattacharya, Santanu; Chakravorty, Dipankar, Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2011

A multiferroic material has been synthesized by first growing BaTiO3 nanocrystals in a silica glass and then subjecting the composite to a two‐stage ion‐exchange reaction of the type Ti4+↔2Ni2+. The nanocomposite retained the usual ferroelectric characteristics with lower values of the ...

Formation Mechanisms of Cu(In0.7Ga0.3)Se2 Nanocrystallites Synthesized using Hot‐Injection and Heating‐Up Processes

01-04-2011 | Hsu, Wei‐Hsiang; Hsiang, Hsing‐I; Chang, Yu‐Lun; Ray, Dah‐Tong; Yen, Fu‐Su, Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2011

Nearly monodispersed CuIn0.7Ga0.3Se2 (CIGS) nanocrystals were successfully prepared using the thermal decomposition of copper, indium (In), gallium (Ga), and selenium–oleylamine (OLA) complexes via the heating‐up process. The phase formation sequence was CuSe→CuInSe2→CIGS. The CIGS ...

Raman investigations of Zn1−xCoxO nanocrystals: role of starting precursors on vibrational properties

01-04-2011 | Bhargava, Richa; Sharma, Prashant K.; Kumar, Sanjeev; Pandey, Avinash C.; Kumar, Naresh, Journal of Raman Spectroscopy, 2011

Abstract The Raman spectra of sol–gel derived Co‐doped ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) in the spectral range 100–1500 cm−1 were investigated. In the sol–gel method, three different series of Co‐doped ZnO particles, i.e. Zn1−xCoxO (x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20), were obtained using three ...

Improving the reproducibility of chemical reactions on the surface of cellulose nanocrystals: ROP of ε-caprolactone as a case study

01-04-2011 | Marianne Labet, Wim Thielemans, Cellulose, 2011

In our group, we work on the surface modification of cellulose nanocrystals. During this work, we have encountered reproducibility issues when the same reactions were performed on nanocrystals from different hydrolysis batches, indicating a variable surface composition. Given the inherent ...

Synthesis and characterization of colloidal gallium selenide nanowires

01-04-2011 | Balitskii, O. A.; Borowiak‐Palen, E.; Konicki, W., Crystal Research and Technology, 2011

Abstract We report first to date ‘green’ metalorganic‐free synthesis of colloidal GaSe nanocrystals. Structure and optical properties of gallium selenide nanocrystals dispersed in oleylamine are discusses in respect to that conventionally prepared in alkylphosphonic solutions. We explore ...

Photoluminescence of samples produced by electroless wet chemical etching: Between silicon nanowires and porous structures

01-04-2011 | Voigt, Felix; Sivakov, Vladimir; Gerliz, Viktor; Bauer, Gottfried H.; Hoffmann, Björn; Radnoczi, Gyorgy Z.; Pec ..., physica status solidi (a), 2011

Abstract Samples containing silicon nanowires (Si‐NWs) and highly porous structures (P‐Si) were prepared by electroless wet chemical etching (EWCE) of crystalline silicon wafers using various etching parameters. Photoluminescence (PL) measurements were performed with excitation at 488 nm ...
