About Institut für Bioverfahrenstechnik der RWTH Aachen

The Chair of Biochemical Engineering at the RWTH Aachen University was founded in 1996 by Prof. Büchs and is part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. It is enrolled in the teaching of students majoring in engineering, biology and biotechnology. Since the end of 1999 we have also become an associated member within the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Sciences. The Chair which is located within 'Sammelbau Biologie' has grown to 10 offices (approximately 200 square meters) and 3 laboratory (approximately 500m²) areas. Our research activities are mainly focused on new methods and devices for the development of advanced biotechnological production processes. This requires a combination of theoretical knowledge in biology and engineering and experience in the design and realisation of experimental investigations. Our group sustains close co-operations with several reputable companies and provides practical solutions to complex biotechnological problems.
