Initial Position:
When your R&D-Department develops a new cell line, a virus, a plasmid, a biomarker, a formula, a plant attribute, a surface coating or anything else, you need a simple solution to document your activities. The same need for documentation exists also in the analytics department.
Desired State:
In a company which has an R&D as well as an analytics department, the R&D usually provides the analytics with a test instruction and waits for their test results. The next step in R&D often depends on the mentioned results. The ideal solution would be a systematic information management that allows storing the data from R&D and analytics in the same system.
Such a system would need to be capable of storing data in a structured form (from analytics) as well as in unstructured form as generated during development. As a researcher, I would also expect to find my analytics results in the according experiment report. Access to the information in the database would have to be possible via full-text search as well as through structured database queries. Ideal would be a combination with full-text search and database queries.
Current software types do not have the required characteristics. Analytics normally work with a LIMS, which can store data in highly structured form only. For the documentation of the R&D work, electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) are used. Those can store data in unstructured form only.
Exemplary working methods with Limsophy:
AAC Infotray AG has developed a new software type, which covers the needs from both R&D as well as from analytics. With the software Limsophy researchers keep record of their experiments which are carried out within a project. The researcher can arrange report-templates according to her/his individuel needs.
Experiment reports can by typed directly with MS-word as text editor. Limsophy also supports the project manager with additional project management features. The analyst needs to document her/his results highly structured in order to do statistical interpretations. The software Limsophy provides appropriate LIMS-functionality for these tasks.
Especially Life Science companies with high expectations appreciate the innovative features of Limsophy!
Limsophy is however industry-neutral and suitable for all companies that would like to make the most of the data from R&D and analytics.

Limsophy RALIMS overcomes frontiers between LIMS and ELN
Data revolt in many places. We give them a face. In research laboratories of the pharmaceutical industry, we call this data uprising "innovation gap" [1] more
How much LIMS can a researcher put up with?
Researchers don't want to work with a LIMS and analysts don't like electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN). These types of software are not ideally suited to mapping these two laboratory processes. In companies with R&D and analysis departments, there is an intensive data exchange between the ... more
