Cognis Announces a Manufacturing Joint Venture for Energy Curing Chemicals with Eternal Chemical Co., Ltd

12 Nov 2004 - The global specialty chemicals supplier Cognis and Eternal Chemical Co., Ltd (Taiwan) announced the formation of a manufacturing joint venture for energy cure products. The contract has been signed on November 10. The joint venture - ETERNAL Specialty Chemical (Zhuhai) Co. Ltd - will be located in Zhuhai, Peoples Republic of China and the official opening of the newly built plant is expected to take place by the end of November 2004.

Patrice Pinsard, Vice President of Cognis and global market manager of the Polymers, Coatings & Inks (PCI) Division commented, "For the PCI Division this manufacturing joint venture will reenforce our strategic focus to the energy curing technology for the future". Cognis has been a pioneer in this technology and with its PhotomerŪ product line today is a leading manufacturer of acrylate monomers and oligomers as well as their blends for use in UV and EB cured coatings, graphic arts, adhesives and other application areas. Energy curing is considered as a "green" and sustainable technology with low emission of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and high economic efficiency. Substantial growth potential is seen on the background of increasing environmental-regulatory pressure around the world and the emerging markets in Asia-Pacific.

Eternal Specialty Chemical Co., Ltd is a leader in energy curing technology in Asia Pacific, as well as a leading supplier of unsaturated polyester and synthetic coating resins, of specialty coatings and electronic specialty chemical products.
