Dr. Bernd Burkhart appointed head of BASF's Aroma Chemicals business

04 Jul 2008 - Effective as from June 1, 2008, Dr. Bernd Burkhart is the new head of BASF Aroma Chemicals business. He succeeds Dr. Ulrich Schaefer-Luederssen, who died unexpectedly in April earlier this year.

 
Dr. Burkhart was born in Bruchweiler, Germany, in 1962. After completing his chemistry studies with a doctorate in organic chemistry at Kaiserslautern University, he joined BASF in 1990 where he was initially involved in surfactant research. Burkhart transferred in 1996 to the Fine Chemicals operating division, working in Product Development Cosmetics, Global Marketing Cosmetics, and New Business Development. In 2001, he switched to corporate Strategic Planning.
 
He was delegated in 2005 to BASF Corporation, Florham Park, USA, where he was responsible for the Cosmetic Solutions business in North America. He returned to Ludwigshafen in January 2008 and was responsible for strategic development of the Care Chemicals operating division, which includes the Aroma Chemicals business.
