PPG declares force majeure on architectural, residential, specialty glass products

26 Aug 2008 - PPG Industries announced that it has declared force majeure on architectural, residential and specialty glass products as a result of torrential rains last week at its Wichita Falls, Texas, glass manufacturing facility, which flooded the plant’s basement and damaged critical process equipment. The company is currently assessing the extent of the damage.
 
"We temporarily ceased operations at Wichita Falls on Tuesday,” said Mark J. Orcutt, PPG vice president, performance glazings. "As a result, it is commercially impracticable for us to meet our customers’ demands at this time. PPG is working diligently to minimize any disruptions to our customers and to bring the facility back into operation as soon as possible.”
 
Production was temporarily halted on both float glass lines at the Wichita Falls facility, but workers were able to restore glassmaking on one. The second line remains idle and a startup date is not known.
