BASF to reduce its worldwide caprolactam production21 Oct 2008 -
Since the end of September, BASF has reduced its worldwide production of caprolactam to about 65 percent. The reason for this measure is the high cost of raw materials and energy as well as the unsatisfactory market demand.
This decision involves production at the sites in Freeport, Texas; Antwerp, Belgium; and Ludwigshafen, Germany. This will not affect the number of employees at those locations. Caprolactam is used for the manufacture of the plastic polyamide 6.
