Dr Vernon Gibson will be new chief chemist at BP

28 Oct 2008 - Dr Vernon Gibson will be joining BP’s research and technology team, in the role of Chief Chemist, on 1st November. This is a new role and reflects the increasing importance of chemistry in BP’s future, according to the company. Dr Gibson will help grow the science base in BP by providing leadership to the large community of chemists and chemical disciplines, and will maintain connections with world class chemicals research outside BP through major academic and industrial partners.

 
Vernon joins BP from Imperial College in London, where he was the Sir Edward Frankland BP Professor of Inorganic Chemistry, responsible for the Catalysis and Materials research section. Whilst there, he was also a member of BP’s external Technology Advisory Council.
