Bar Keeper's Friend

Bar Keepers Friend is a powdered household cleaner sold for use particularly on metals, but also on other household items.

In place of the chlorine bleach that other powder cleansers contain, the chemical cleaning agent in Bar Keepers Friend is oxalic acid. Chloride ions are known to cause pitting corrosion in stainless steel, whereas oxalate ions are a corrosion inhibitor. If traces of a powder cleanser should become trapped in a crevice of a stainless steel article, a chloride-containing compound may cause damage.
