Calcium(I) chloride (CaCl) is an ionic compound of calcium and chlorine. It was first synthesized in 1978.

Chemical properties

Calcium(I) chloride decomposes to calcium metal and calcium(II) chloride at 3000 °C, but at room temperature calcium(I) chloride is stable.

Preparation

At 1000 °C, calcium(II) chloride reacts with hydrogen gas to form calcium(I) chloride.

2CaCl2 + H2 → 2CaCl + 2HCl
