Aventis takes note of the European Commission's decision about methionine pricing

04-Jul-2002

Strasbourg, France, 07-03-2002 - The Commission of the European Union has decided to impose no fine on Aventis for the participation of a former affiliate in anti-competitive practices in the EU market for methionine prior to the creation of Aventis. The Commission by this decision obviously acknowledged the full cooperation of Aventis in its investigation and has applied its leniency policy in favor of Aventis. As we have not yet received the complete wording of the decision, we are not in a position to further comment on any details.

Aventis sincerely regrets the past involvement of its former affiliate, Aventis Animal Nutrition, in such activities in the EU market for methionine and has taken further steps to avoid such occurrences in the future. The animal nutrition business is no longer a part of Aventis. It was sold on April 2, 2002 to CVC Capital Partners.
