Eastman Commercializes New Acrylic Resin for Topcoat Markets

21-Feb-2001

Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) today announced the commercialization of Acrylamac HS 2365, a new functional acrylic resin designed for topcoat applications in the industrial maintenance and marine market.

"This product is immediately targeted for paint manufacturers who have substantial sales into California where state regulations have reduced the allowed volatile organic compounds (VOC) limits for industrial maintenance paints," said Roger Haines, market development specialist for industrial maintenance and marine.

Acrylamac HS 2365 is a high solids, hydroxy functional acrylic polyol specifically designed for industrial maintenance and marine topcoats requiring applied VOCs of 250 g/l or less. The urethane cross-linked film combines long-term durability (gloss and color retention), chemical resistance, and early water resistance with excellent flexibility and adhesion.

Providing the formulator with a unique balance of cost and performance, Acrylamac HS 2365, reduces isocyanate demand compared to other 250 g/l compliant alternatives. The resin maintains application qualities and key performance properties of higher VOC systems, including:

Significant viscosity reduction at VOC levels of 250 g/l Formulation latitude due to compatibility with a broad range of solvents Reduced isocyanate demand, lower VOC and improved flow and leveling when used as a sole vehicle or in blends with other polyols

Haines said Acrylamac HS 2365 provides the application versatility needed by formulators. "Coatings can be optimized for conventional air spray, airless spray and roller applications."
