Wiley InterScience Launches New Interface

22-Aug-2003
Eileen Dolan, Vice President, Wiley InterScience, today announced the launch of a new Wiley InterScience interface. The sophisticated new interface is the result of a comprehensive redesign of the site's underlying information architecture and its graphical interface. Wiley InterScience is the online service of John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Ms. Dolan said "The new interface accommodates the expanding scope of Wiley InterScience content; and delivers a more intuitive, consistent and engaging interface to our sophisticated user community of well over 13 million scholars and researchers globally." At its commercial launch in 1999, Wiley InterScience was primarily an online journals service, but in the ensuing five years has become much more - developing an extensive range of content that goes beyond journals, including everything from multi-volume Reference Works and libraries of OnlineBooks, to Current Protocols and a suite of chemistry databases that incorporate sophisticated structure-search technology. "The new interface maximizes the depth and breadth of this content and delivers it in a highly intuitive interface that allows users to pinpoint the information they need quickly and efficiently," said Ms. Dolan. "The new interface is the culmination of a great deal of interaction with our users, customers and societal partners, where their input was sought to ensure we delivered a tool designed to meet their unique requirements," Ms. Dolan continued. As a result of feedback from customers and scholarly and scientific society partners, the new interface provides prominent library and society branding to ensure both groups receive acknowledgement for the important part they play in ensuring the service's essential content is accessible to the wider end-user community. Users will benefit from enhanced search and navigation features that allow them to quickly find the information they need in any discipline across all types of online publications. Ms. Dolan also said that the company spent a considerable amount of time on tailoring personalization options for the user. "We have developed a personal navigation bar which means once a user has logged on, they have a quick and persistent access to all their saved titles, articles and searches -- ensuring they can get to the content they want in fewer clicks. This provides a more personal experience when you are at Wiley InterScience - an experience unique to your own individual research requirements." "The new interface represents our commitment to be an integral part of the discovery process of researchers, practitioners, and professionals," concluded Ms. Dolan.
