Thomas P. Grehl Elected A Vice President Of Rohm And Haas

Philadelphia, PA, – Rohm and Haas’s board of directors has elected Thomas P. Grehl a vice president of the company. Grehl is slated to become head of the company’s Asia-Pacific region on January 1, 2001, upon the retirement of the current director, Frank Maher. Tom Grehl joined Rohm and Haas in 1982 as an auditor at the company’s headquarters in Philadelphia. Two years later, he accepted a position as financial and human resources manager for the company’s plant in Bayport, Texas. Grehl joined the Asia-Pacific region in 1986, where he has held positions of increasing responsibility. Most notably, Grehl has been integral to the company’s success in the Peoples Republic of China, helping to establish first a marketing joint venture, then later a manufacturing joint venture Beijing Eastern Rohm and Haas (BERHC) in 1989 and 1993, respectively. In 1996, Grehl was given broader responsibility as area director for all Rohm and Haas businesses in Greater China (Taiwan and the Peoples Republic of China). Today, Rohm and Haas operates six plants in China and two in Taiwan, along with nearly a dozen offices and laboratories. In 1998, Grehl was named area director in North Asia and business director for Chemical Specialties Businesses in Asia Pacific. As vice president, Grehl will oversee Rohm and Haas interests in the Asia Pacific Region. Rohm and Haas currently operates nearly 80 business, research, and manufacturing sites in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Regional sales in 1999 were close to $700 million. Grehl, a native of New York City, holds a B.S. Degree in Economics and a B.A. Degree in Political Science from Swarthmore College (1977), an M.A. from the East Asian Institute at Columbia University (1980) and an M.B.A. from Columbia University (1982). Grehl, and his family live in Taipei, Taiwan.
