Herein, we report a green and facile electrochemical method to the preparation of well-dispersed Pd nanoparticles supported on reduced graphene oxide (rGO), employing palladium (II) nitrate and graphene oxide without the introduction of other reagents. The morphology and composition of the as-prepared rGO supported Pd nanoparticles are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Inspired by the fast-developing direct fuel cells, the electrocatalytic performance of the nanocatalysts towards methanol and ethanol oxidation is studied via cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry in the alkaline medium. It is found that the as-prepared catalyst exhibits superior electrocatalytic activity, showing the practical application in direct methanol and ethanol fuel cells.
