An anomalous dependence of the elastic modulus of aramid fibers on strain

The effect of tensile strain on the acoustic elastic modulus of Rusar, Armos, and SVM aramid fibers is studied. The elastic modulus is found to decrease during stretching to a strain on the order of 0.2%; at high strains, an increase in the modulus is observed. The effect is revealed both in a complex thread consisting of hundreds of parallel fibers and in a single fiber.
