N,N′‐Bis(2‐thienylmethylene)ethane‐1,2‐diamine

The title compound, C12H12N2S2, was prepared from a condensation reaction of thiophene‐2‐carboxaldehyde with ethylenediamine in refluxing ethanol. The molecule adopts a Z‐shaped conformation, with the two thiophene rings lying on either side of the Csp3—Csp3 bond. The two thiophene rings form a dihedral angle of 11.2 (2)°. The crystal packing is mainly stabilized by van der Waals forces.
