GLV or Grating-Light-Valve is the basis technology of a projection system competing with DLP, LCD, LCOS and similar.

SLM (Silicon Light Machines, Sunnyvale CA) uses the Grating-Light-Valve to diffract laser light using an array of tiny movable ribbons mounted on a silicon base. The GLV uses six ribbons as the diffraction gratings for each pixel.
The alignment of the gratings is altered by electronic signals, and this displacement controls the intensity of the diffracted light in a very smooth gradation.
The system uses three lasers, red (642nm), green (532nm), blue (457nm), for lightsource.
Sony states that the system could be used to project images at any aspect ratio.
