Norbert Peters (engineer)



Norbert Peters (July 10 1942 Linz) is professor combustion at the Rhein Westphalian University of Technology at Aachen (RWTH Aachen). He is head of Institut fuer Technische Verbrennung (Institute for Engineering Combustion). He was educated at the Karlsruhe University of Technology and later at the Technical University of Berlin.

N. Peters's research interest is in laminar and turbulent flames. The interaction between turbulence and combustion constitutes an important part of his research. He is author of the book 'Turbulent Combustion'. He is well-known for his ideas on flamelet model in turbulent combustion as well as for the systematic generation of reduced reaction mechanisms from detailed reaction mechanisms.

Among many other recognitions are :

  • Honorary Doctorate degrees from universities of Burxelles and Darmstadt
  • Zel'dovich medal of the combustion institute(2002)
  • Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (1990)
