Robert Siegel (doctor)




Robert J. Siegel, MD is Director of the Cardiac Noninvasive Laboratory at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Cardiology Director of the Cedars-Sinai Marfan Center and Holder of the Kennamer Chair in Cardiac Ultrasound. Dr. Siegel is also Professor of Medicine in Residence at the David Geffen School of Medicine UCLAand previously served as Senior Staff Fellow in Cardiac Pathology at the Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Internationally recognized as one of the leading experts in the field of cardiovascular ultrasound, Dr. Siegel specializes in cardiovascular ultrasound, including transthoracic, transesophageal and intravascular methodologies. Dr. Siegel's research interests include intravascular ultrasound imaging, therapeutic applications of ultrasound energy, transesophageal and intraoperative echocardiography, as well as the development and use of hand-held portable echocardiographic systems for clinical innovations. In addition, he is involved with clinical research studies related to the diagnosis, assessment and management of patients with Marfan Syndrome, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, pericardial and valvular heart disease.

He is on the editorial board of four cardiovascular journals and is the editor of Cardiology Update. Dr. Siegel has edited two textbooks on ultrasound related topics, and he is a reviewer for more than a dozen cardiovascular journals. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers related to cardiovascular medicine. He is also a contributing author to more than a dozen cardiovascular textbooks.

Dr. Siegel is a fellow, and has previously served as the president, of the California Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, and the Los Angeles Society of Echocardiography. He has been active in numerous cardiovascular societies, including the American Heart Association. the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography.

Dr. Siegel received his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, where he developed an interest in cardiology. He completed his medical residency at Emory University in Atlanta and at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center. He completed his cardiology fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

He is related to novelist Lee A. Siegel and film actor Sebastian Siegel.
