Gilbert Chu



Gilbert Chu (朱著文) is an American Professor of Biochemistry and Medicine at Stanford University.

He received a B.A. in Physics from Princeton University in 1967, a Ph.D in Physics from M.I.T. in 1973. a M.D from Harvard Medical School in 1980. He joined the Stanford faculty in 1987 as Professor of Biochemistry, and as a practicing physician in the Division of Oncology at the Stanford Medical School. His research has involved how cells react to DNA damage from radiation. His research in cancer treatment has involved developing electroporation techniques to use with microarrays to study transcriptional responses to DNA damage in cancer patients.

He was one of three developers of instrumentation and mathematical programs for data analysis.[1] He has the Clinical Scientist Award for Translational Research from Burroughs-Wellcome Fund (Wellcome Trust), from the Rita Allen Foundation, and from the Mary Kay Ash charitable Foundation.

His younger brother Steven Chu is a Nobel laureate.[1] His other younger brother is the attorney Morgan Chu.
