John Macintyre (born 1857 - died 1928) was a doctor who set up the world's first radiology department at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, in Glasgow, Scotland. Originally trained as an electrical engineer, he later graduated in 1882 from the University of Glasgow with the Bachelor of Medicine degree. He assigned the letters to Qrs waves.

He was appointed to the electrical department of the Royal Infirmary. With the help of Lord Kelvin he managed to set up the world's first radiology department in the hospital for patients in 1896. This was only months after Willem Rontgen's initial discovery of x-rays.
