KAF-10500



Kodak announced on September 15, 2006 that Kodak's KAF-10500 CCD image sensor was to be used in the new M8 camera from German manufacter Leica.[1] The sensor was developed specifically - perhaps not exclusively – for this camera. It has 10.3 million 6.8 μm pixels and is 18×27 mm inducing a 1.33 crop factor, with a ISO 160–2500 sensitivity range.

The KAF-10500 sensor includes indium tin oxide as a constituent material which Kodak claims leads to low noise, high sensitivity, and wide dynamic range. It is designed for use with lenses with short back focal lengths by including a microlens array to reduce fall off in intensity from the center to corners of the image. Further details and aspects of the sensor were unveiled during the course of Photokina 2006. [2]
