Stephen Brand

Stephen Brand is currently Vice President of Business Development and Exploration for ConocoPhillips. He is heritage Phillips 66.

Overview

Dr. Stephen R. Brand obtained his Ph.D. in geology from Purdue University; he is currently 57 years old. He has been with the company for over 30 years, during which he was stationed in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Denver, Houston, Calgary, and Perth, Western Australia.

While in Australia, he was the country manager. His main project was the development of a site known as Bayu - Undan which is located off the coast of Northern Australia in a disputed area within the Timor Sea. He negotiated deals with the Australian and fledgling East Timor governments that allowed the project to go forward after the original Timor Sea Treaty covering the disputed area was in limbo following East Timor's independence from Indonesia. The overall cost of the development, which consists of an offshore operation to extract and sell the oil, and a gas pipeline to Darwin, Northern Territory where the gas is processed through a new LNG plant, is estimated at 3 billion dollars. Brand is now Senior Vice - President of Conocophillips.

The onshore portion of the project alone has created large amounts of jobs in Darwin and has created a housing boom. The overall project led by Dr. Brand is expected to make ConocoPhillips 17 billion dollars over a period of 25 years.
