Review Adding 0, 1, and 2

You just reviewed the basics of addition.

Now, let's review how we add 0, 1 and 2!

The number line can help us add these numbers.

**Adding 0 to a number** means you don't add anything to it. You don't have to move on the number line.

Let's try adding:

1 + 0 =?

When you add 0 to 1, the answer is still 1.

You did not move forward on the number line.

How about this one?

15 + 0 =?

Adding zero means we don't move on the number line.

So, the answer is 15!

Now, what happens if you have this problem?

0 + 15 =?

**15 + 0 **and **0 + 15 **are the same!

They both equal 15. 😉

👉 In addition, you can switch the two addends.

**Adding 1 to a number** means you count up by 1 on the number line.

Let's try adding this:

3 + 1 =?

You'll start at 3 and count up 1 on the number line.

When you add 1 to 3, you get 4.

Can you quickly find the answer to 14 + 1?

You're right! It's 15.

What about 17 + 1?

It's 18!

You're getting this! 🤘

**Adding 2 to a number** is counting up by 2 on the number line.

Let's try it:

1 + 2 =?

When you add 2 to 1, the answer is 3.

You got 3 by moving 2 steps up from 1.

What about 8 + 2?

You're right! It's 10.

What about 16 + 2?

It's 18!

Great work! 💪
