Basel, Switzerland, 3 May 2001 - Syngenta today announced the first registration of its new herbicide pyriftalid in South Korea. Pyriftalid has been approved for use in paddy rice and will be commercialized in APIRO® Ace GR.
Pyriftalid controls grasses. It is particularly effective against Echinochloa, the most troublesome weed in rice paddies. The new Syngenta herbicide can be used flexibly, from before Echinochloa emergence through to the weed's full development. APIRO® Ace GR is a broad-spectrum herbicide, combining the strong grass control of pyriftalid with the efficacy of cinosulfuron against sedges and broadleaf weeds.
Syngenta will submit pyriftalid and a range of other APIRO® products for approval in major rice-growing countries throughout Asia. "These new introductions will be an excellent addition to our strong rice herbicide portfolio," said John Atkin, Chief Operating Officer of Syngenta Crop Protection.
