BASF Vitamin Production Plant Rated "Superior" in AIB Audits

04-May-2005

Last month, the American Institute of Baking (AIB) successfully audited BASF's Calpan plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The auditors, which follow a strict inspection program for food safety, rated BASF's plant with 910 points as "superior". A superior rating is the highest possible classification ranging from 900 points to the maximum achievable total score of 1000 points.

Recently further successful AIB audits were made in various BASF production facilities worldwide rating them "excellent" including the Vitamin C production plants in Grenaa, Denmark and in Hikari, Japan as well as the new world-scale Vitamin B2 plant in Gunsan, Korea. A plant is classified as excellent with a score between 800 and 900 points.

AIB audits aim to secure at every step of the food supply chain safe and high-quality products worldwide. The criteria for the inspection program are derived from various good management principles e.g. U.S. Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act, EU Directive 93/43/EEC and Codex Alimentarius Commission Standards on Food Hygiene. The following criteria are valued: adequacy of the food safety program, pest control, operational methods & personnel practices, and maintenance for food safety and cleaning practices.
