Augsburg Diamond Technology GmbH specializes in the synthesis of large-scale diamond single crystals. The preparation is based on the method of heteroepitaxy, in which diamond is grown in an oriented form on a foreign substrate. The fundamentals of this technology have been developed in the last 20 years at the Institute of Physics of the University of Augsburg. Crystals produced by the new process are commercially available for the first time. The company is a spin-off from the University of Augsburg.
Augsburg Diamond Technology synthesizes single-crystal diamond for a wide range of mechanical, optical, electrical and thermal applications. Applying chemical vapor deposition, all crystals are grown on the specially developed multilayer substrate Ir/YSZ/Si. Hence, diamond crystals with an edge length of at least 20 mm are achievable. Depending on the specific application, individual characteristics regarding transparency or shading can be offered.
