12-Apr-2002
PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (April 11, 2002). .. To celebrate the expansion of Degussa's Piscataway, N.J., site, the company will hold a dedication ceremony April 11. The expansion consists of new labs, totaling 21,000 square feet, to be used by Degussa's Aerosil & silanes, Advanced Fillers & pigments and Röhm Specialty Acrylics business units. . Dr. Carl Voigt, Executive Vice President of Degussa's coatings & Advanced Fillers business unit, outlined the goal of the project, which was begun in November, 2000. "We wanted to bring the R&D and technical services for our coatings-related businesses together at one location," he said. "We already had labs at this site for colorants, crosslinkers, resins and silanes. Now, with these new labs for the AEROSIL® fumed silicas, Sivento® silanes, AQUA-TRETE®, CHEM-TRETE® and PROTECTOSIL® building protection products, SIPERNAT® precipitated silicas, ACEMATT® flatting agents, and PRINTEX® and other specialty carbon blacks used in the coatings industries, we have created a strong technical center to better serve the NAFTA region." . A significant portion of the facilities in the new labs are devoted to Degussa's pharmaceutical polymer products, and meet current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) standards. The new Degussa Röhm Pharma polymers labs are designated for customer support, feasibility studies and technological development use. Röhm Pharma Polymers produces polymers for the pharmaceutical industry, such as EUDRAGIT® pharma polymers for modified release drug delivery systems and EUPERGIT® polymer carriers for enzyme immobilization. . The new labs meet the latest regulatory requirements for health and safety, and add approximately 30 employees to the over 200 people already employed at the Piscataway facility. The new operations will join the colorant manufacturing and laboratory/administrative support work that has been conducted on-site for close to 30 years.
