Davison Catalysts Announces New Online Catalyst Support Search System

Davison catalysts, a business unit of W. R. Grace & Co., has launched its "Catalynk" website for researchers and process developers to select support materials for heterogeneous catalysts. The site, located at www.davicat.com, features a "Support Search Expert System" which allows the user to quickly identify appropriate support materials for a given set of reaction conditions. "Catalynk has been specifically designed to assist the research chemist early in the discovery process. The impact of thermodynamic and process conditions on commercial viability are considered," said Raymond D. Feldwick, Vice-President of Chemical Catalysts for Davison. "temperature, pH, and phase often play a critical role in the choice of catalyst materials and reactor design, and Catalynk factors these and other key variables into the design of the optimum catalyst support material." According to Dr. Robert H. Harding, Manager, New business development, Davison Catalysts, and architect of the site, "Davison realizes that the research process is typically highly confidential, so we have designed the site to provide guidance while requiring minimal input from the user. Catalynk can suggest some potential catalyst support materials with very little user input. With more information, Catalynk can perform custom matches that provide the optimum catalyst carrier for a given reaction system." To assist in the design process, Catalynk provides short, informal tutorials on reactor types and various support materials in a number of forms. Once a user has obtained a match for a catalyst carrier system, he can order samples of this material online directly from the site.
