STMicroelectronics and its partners select Air Liquide

15-May-2003

Air Liquide has been selected by STMicroelectronics and its partners, Philips and Motorola, to supply, install and operate all the gas and chemical fluid production and distribution equipment at their new plant called Crolles 2. This plant will be a cutting edge production unit for a new semiconductor generation (300mm silicon wafers) with etching as thin as 90 to 32 nanometers. These "chips" are widely used in our daily lives in products such as mobile telephones, automobiles, multimedia, DVD...

STMicroelectronics and its two partners will invest 1.4 billion dollars in this site before 2005. This unit, which was officially inaugurated on February 27, 2003 by President Chirac, is the largest French industrial investment signed in the last 10 years.

Crolles 2 will complement Crolles 1, which was built in 1992. Globally, these two units will employ more than 3,000 people. About 200 Air Liquide employees will work at this site, with 80 based directly at the customers' plant in order to ensure uninterrupted service.
