New POLARIS® SS acrylic-modified polyester resins developed by Ashland Specialty Chemical expand solid-surface uses

13-Nov-2000

Dublin, Ohio (USA) – The Composite polymers Division (CPD) of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company recently developed an improved, premium family of acrylic-modified polyester resins that expand the use of solid-surfacing materials in home-building, construction and architectural applications. Product data sheets are available on the new resins effective Nov. 15 by calling CPD Customer Service at 1-800-523-6963.

The new POLARIS® SS resin family of products includes:

POLARIS® SS AMP resin with antimicrobial protection, POLARIS® SS Clear resin, with very low color and high clarity, POLARIS® SS Hi-Yield resin, which provides superior strength and improved production yield and POLARIS® SS LS resin, with less than 35 percent content of hazardous air pollutants.

“Ashland designed these new resins for use in kitchen sinks and counter tops, bathroom sinks and vanity tops, desk tops and other surfacing applications where appearance, stain resistance, and a wide variety of color options are important,” said Bernard G. Brody, CPD’s solid-surface industry manager.

“POLARIS® SS resins produce solid-surface parts that are superior to traditional materials -- such as ceramic tile, wood butcher block and high-pressure laminate -- in stain resistance, germ resistance, smooth surface appearance, inconspicuous seams, repairability and heat resistance,” Brody said.
