11-Jun-2001

Krupp Uhde, Dortmund, has won a contract from Weifang Yaxing Chemicals Co. Ltd. for the supplies and services to build a chlorine-alkali electrolysis plant in Weifang, Shandong province.

Krupp Uhde will carry out a large part of the basic and detail engineering for the complete plant, supply the electrolysers and other special equipment and offer technical assistance in the construction, training of the personnel and commissioning of the plant.

"We were convinced by the efficiency and reliability of the plants so far supplied by Krupp Uhde," said the Chairman of Weifang Yaxing Chemicals Co., Chen Huasen, on the occasion of the contract signing which took place in the presence of the vice governor of Shandong Province on June 1, 2001, in Dortmund.

The customer, for its part, will carry out part of the engineering, provide the other equipment and assume responsibility for the construction work and commissioning.

The contract is worth some DM 30 million to Krupp Uhde.

The plant is scheduled to come on stream in the third quarter of 2003 and will produce 60,000 tonnes of caustic soda and 53,000 tonnes of chlorine per year using the energy-saving Krupp Uhde membrane technology. The chlorine will be used for the production of plastics.

Taking new plants, revamps and conversions into account, Krupp Uhde has now built an annual production capacity of more than 4.4 million tonnes of caustic soda solution worldwide and is thus one of the leading suppliers of chlorine plants based on membrane technology.
