Restructuring and production reductions in BASF's polystyrene foams

23-Nov-2001

Due to the current market situation in the area of polystyrene foams, BASF will make capacity adjustments. Production of Styropor®, BASF's expandable polystyrene (EPS), is immediately being reduced by 25 percent at the Ludwigshafen site. This measure will not affect the numbers of employees and is expected to last until the end of January. It is part of the capacity reductions already announced for the end of the year. Furthermore, as has already been communicated, the plant for the production of Styrodur®, BASF's extruded rigid polystyrene foam (XPS), will be shut down at the Antwerp site.

Styropor and Styrodur C are foam products based on polystyrene that are used particularly as insulating materials in the construction of buildings and in the packaging sector (Styropor).
