Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture, or OPC UA for short, is an open-source collection of standards for communication and data exchange. OPC has been successfully used in industrial automation for over 25 years and is continually being expanded and improved. In principle, it is a framework of rules that can be easily integrated into existing software.
The industry association SPECTARIS introduced the Laboratory Analytic Device Standard – LADS extension in 2024. The requirements of the laboratory world are combined under the Companion Specification LADS. LADS compatible devices, even from different manufacturers, can be quickly and easily integrated into networks using “Plug & Play” and LADS compatible software, as easily as, for example, printers on PCs.
The devices can be controlled, monitored, maintained and even orchestrated via software processes. It can be operated via mobile phone, tablet or PC. Data communication is encrypted and meets the latest data security requirements. LADS interfaces - now available with 2mag magnetic stirrers.
