Bollig & Kemper GmbH & Co KG
About Bollig & Kemper
The company Bollig & Kemper was
founded in 1919 by Wilhelm Kemper and
Heinrich Bollig. We can look back at 90
years of experience in the development,
production and sale of paints. In 1926,
Heinrich Bollig left the company. Since
this time, the company has been under
the ownership and management of the
Kemper family. The company has remained
located in Cologne, which is the cultural
and industrial capital of the Rhineland.
In the second generation, Hans Kemper
began to produce automotive paints at the
end of the 1940's. The first customers in the
automobile industry were the Ford factories
in Cologne and Poissy, Peugeot and Renault.
The relationship to the French automotive
industry therefore goes back more than
50 years. In the years between 1975
and 1997, Bollig & Kemper also supplied
BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Karmann and VW.
From 1977 onwards, a second strong
support business was created in the
field of coil coating paints, which
was mainly carried out in the years
between 1998 and 2003.
The automotive paint business including
the branch factory in Saarland, erected
in 1984, was sold due to globalisation.
historyreasons and according to the terms
of the contract, no automotive paints were
allowed to be produced for five years.
Due to the growing demand of our interior
and exterior plastics coatings business,
Bollig & Kemper Ltd. was opened in 2001
to develop and service the UK marketplace.
At the request of the German automobile
industry, we went back to the field of
automotive coatings in 2003. The main
factory in Cologne started to display
capacity restraints in 2005. This was
the reason for the decision to sell the
coil coating business and to concentrate
on the market segments of automotive
coatings, plastic paints, pigment pastes
and resins. This strategic decision
was rounded off by the acquisition of
Vernis Soudée in France, which is an
important supplier of Peugeot Citroën.
