Ciba Specialty Chemicals announces technical cooperation for polymer additives in Middle East

Combined know-how to provide unique technical support for customers in fast-growing Middle East polymer industry

Ciba specialty chemicals, Basel, Switzerland and the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) based in Dhahran, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a cooperation agreement for technical development of polymer additives. This joint endeavor will provide specific and unique technical assistance and active support to the fast-growing polymer industry in this important region.

The centerpiece of the cooperation is a modern, full-fledged polymer testing and analysis laboratory, to be located at the Research Institute premises of KFUPM in Dhahran and jointly managed by the two partners. Strong links between this laboratory operation and Ciba Specialty Chemicals’ global technical development network will ensure access to world-class polymer additive technology, providing prime value to customers in the polymer industry in the region. Dr. Roberto Todesco, Global Technical Manager for Polymer Additives at Ciba Specialty Chemicals, said: “The primary objective of this partnership is to combine KFUPM’s extraordinary knowledge of the industry specifics in the Middle East with Ciba’s world-leading polymer additives technology competence.”

Dr. Halim Hamid, Manager of the Petroleum Refining & Petrochemicals Division of KFUPM, said: “This new partnership will reinforce our reputation for technical service with companies in the region and give us access to data on Ciba Specialty Chemicals’ broad range of stabilizers and effect additives.”
